Let's Play TAG

I've been tagged by Stephanie over at Kinder Kiddo. I was a first time visitor when she tagged me; you should head over and check out her blog. Sign up to follow her while you're there!

Rules of Tag:
1. You must post the rules. {check}
2. Post 12 fun facts about yourself on the blog post. {check}

3. Answer the questions the tagger set for you in their post, and then create 12 new questions for the people you tagged. {check}
4. Tag 12 people and link them on your post. {check}
5. Let them know you've tagged them! {check}

12 fun facts about me:
1. This is my fifth year teaching kindergarten, but my first year in this elementary building. I switched buildings within my district, and I'm loving the smaller setting.

2. My current favorite TV shows are "Vampire Diaries" and "Once Upon a Time."

3. I love etsy and wish I could buy all the CUTE things I've favorited.

4. I also love pinterest. I've pinned so many fun ideas, I don't know if I'll ever get to try them all out!

5. I no longer use a "dumb phone." I just got an iPhone last week, so now apparently I'm one of the cool kids. :o) PS: I LOVE it!

6. I'm only the 4th person from the bottom of the seniority list this year. Cuts are coming AGAIN. We're supposed to find out this week where they're cutting from; I don't know how they could cut from the elementary buildings any more than they already have. Last year we eliminated 1 person per grade level and boy have our class sizes grown because of it!

7. I have 8 NYS certifications: early childhood B-2, early childhood students with disabilities B-2, childhood 1-6, childhood students with disabilities 1-6, reading B-6, reading 5-12, English 7-12, students with disabilities-English 7-12. I've certainly done my part to help stimulate the NYS economy with each of those certs costing a mere $100. Jeesh!

8. I believe teaching is in your DNA. I come from a family full of teachers: my dad, sister, aunt, 2 cousins

9. Something I would love more than almost anything right now is a massage...wow, does your back hurt or what from carrying & holding a baby all the time!

10. I think one of the most soothing sounds is the sound of a cat purring.

11. Autumn is my favorite season. If I could do it all again, I would get married in the fall with all the beautiful leaves around, jewel toned dresses, hot apple cider, etc. We got married in July, so I wouldn't have to take time off of work for our honeymoon and my kinders wouldn't get confused by my name change.

12. I drive about 35-40 minutes to get to work. It's nice for decompressing before I get home in the afternoon, but it sure would be convenient to live in the town where I teach. I must say I'm quite jealous of how my dad can run down to his classroom on the weekends for a couple minutes and it's not an inconvenience.

12 questions from my tagger:
1.  What is your favorite store? Target and American Eagle

2.  Do you have a class pet? Nope--my first year, I had some fish, but they were too much work for the little amount the kids paid attention to them. We're not allowed to have anything fuzzy in our rooms because of allergies.

3.  Do you prefer Dollar Tree or Dollar General? Dollar Tree...I worked there while in college!

4.  How many pets at home do you have? 2 cats and 2 guinea pigs

5.  Do you have kids of your own? Yes, a 1 month old baby boy!

6.  How do you deal with help helicopter parents see your side of life? Open dialogue is all I think you can do. You can't change them and they usually aren't willing to see your side yet since it's only their kid's first or second year of school depending on whether or not they went to PreK.

7.  How do you involve absent parents in school activities? Field trips seem to get the most volunteers. Everyone comes out of the woodwork for those. I also have opportunities to come in for holiday parties, workshop time, and they can also sign-up to send in treats for parties if they work and can't come into our room.

8.  What is your favorite sport? to play: volleyball, to watch: football

9.  What is your favorite team of #8's sport? Buffalo Bills

10.  What is the piece of jewelry you wear most often? wedding & engagement rings...they never come off...except for a couple weeks while I was pregnant!

11.  Do you like curtains or blinds? roman shades

12.  What can brighten your day when nothing else can? wine! haha...um, music, family, pets, dessert, etc.

12 questions to go on:
1. What's your favorite candy?

2. Do you sell units, etc. on TpT? If so, how do you find the time to work on them?

3. Who is your favorite children's author?

4. What is your favorite subject to teach you kiddos and why?

5. How long have you been blogging and how did you get started?

6. What is your favorite dish to cook/bake?

7. What's your favorite way to exercise?

8. What is your favorite crafting activity?

9. How long have you been teaching and what grades have you taught?

10. What is your middle name?

11. What is your most effective stress-reducing technique? (eating, exercising, music, sleep, etc)

12. When did you know you wanted to be a teacher?

TAAAAAG you're it:

Love to Joplin Linky Party

I just read this blog post from Deedee Wills' blog...what a wonderful way to give back.
It's been 8 months since the tornado hit Joplin, MO, and Deedee just got an email from a kindergarten teacher there saying,
"I teach in Joplin, which made worldwide news last May when our town was cut in half by an F5 tornado.  Many of our elementary schools were destroyed or damaged, and as teachers, we have had a roller coaster year.  I came from a meeting yesterday where many are struggling with the weight of all we are dealing with.  My request is this:  would you be willing to donate a created pack of your choosing to give away at a drawing at our upcoming district Kindergarten grade level meeting?  The meeting is Monday and I am sorry for the short notice but I did not realize until the meeting how down everyone is feeling."

Here's how you can join the linky party and help:

1.  Send your TpT product or Teacher's Notebook to Ericaedoennig@joplin.k12.mo.us

2. Then link up at:

Let's unexpectedly fill her email with signs of love!
Please send your TpT or Teacher Notebook products to help those teachers in Joplin, MO.

New Mommy Blog

It's official! In order to keep this blog solely about my classroom and teaching topics, I have decided to start a "mommy blog" for all my baby babblings. I got the idea/copied Shannon from Kindergarten Hoppenings & The Fallible Mommy. Thanks, Shannon! :o)

If you're interested, you can visit my mommy blog here: Hangin' with Momma Cooper. (If you know how to fix my header, I'd love any tips you could leave in the comments!)

Thank You!!

Thank you to Amy from The Resource(ful) Room for the Versatile Blogger Award! It's my first blogging award--how fun! :o)

I feel so honored to have my blog recognized! It's nice to know that other teachers are enjoying (and hopefully using) some of the tips, crafts, etc. I post on here. Thank you, Amy, for making my day!!

Here are the rules of the award:
1. Thank the person who presented the award to you and link back to them. (check!)

2.  Tell seven things about yourself.
1.) My husband and I welcomed our precious baby, Nolan, into the world on December 21, 2011. Sleep deprivation is setting in, and I'm getting accustomed to hanging out on the couch watching soaps and talk shows and napping all day. Since I've been home on maternity leave, I've been posting a little more regularly, but I haven't had any freebies or teaching activities really. Just silly, fun posts for now!

2.) I have two very spoiled cats, Olive & Pickles, and two very spoiled guinea pigs, Lola & Penelope.

3.) This is my fifth year teaching kindergarten, and I started out the year in a new elementary building in my district. This building is smaller (only 2 classes per grade level), and I'm loving it!

4.) My favorite TV show is The Vampire Diaries. I know, I know, it's totally a teenage drama show, but I just can't get enough of Elena, Stefan, & Damon!

5.) I'm kind of a tea addict lately. I couldn't have my favorites while I was pregnant, and I went into withdrawal. I'm definitely making up for it now though--I think I had 4 mugs yesterday! My current favorite is Celestial Seasonings decaf white tea...mmm!

6.) I love to bake...cookies, cakes, cupcakes, you name it!

7.) I hate collections--they can looks so cluttered and messy, but I can't help but collect willow tree angels. There's just something about the faceless figures that is so beautiful. I've run out of shelves and bookcase space to display them on, so I've been in search of some nice wall shelves to hang in my livingroom.
That was a lot more difficult than I thought it would be!

3. Pass this on to 15 newly discovered blogs and let them know they've received the award.
I don't know if I have 15 newly discovered blogs, but here are the newest additions to my google reader in the past couple weeks...

Erin Condren Giveaway!

Ok, so I looove organizing things (when I feel like it!), and I love crossing things off my to do lists.

Made for 1st Grade is having a super sweet giveaway...an Erin Condren $50 voucher. I watched the little trailer thing about the life planners and read through the info...I simply MUST have one of these planners! They make so much more sense than the one I am currently using and posting sticky notes with my lists all over the front!

Fingers crossed!!!
