Brian Mendler

Today was our second superintendent's conference day, and we had a guest speaker, Brian Mendler, who will be working in our district throughout the year helping us learn to motivate and manage hard to read, uninterested, and disruptive students. His presentation was AWESOME! I could listen to him for hours (and did). He definitely left us with a lot to think about. I seriously need to check out his books.

Marshmallow Toes!

After seeing the marshmallow toes activity at Kreative in Kinder, and falling in love with the idea, I modified the activity a bit to fit into my plans for the first week of school. I can't wait to try it out because hallway behavior is usually where I struggle the most with my kinders. Marshmallow toes seems like a fun and motivating way to get them to be quiet in the halls--who wouldn't love earning a marshmallow?! I added a little counting to the activity; students will glue 10 marshmallows on the toes (a big marshmallow for each big toe and mini mallows for the smaller ones) instead of just 5, and it will be one of our first gluing activities too. Plus, I made an additional 5 senses worksheet to use with marshmallows since that's our first unit in science. Don't forget to use Dr. Jean's 5 senses song to introduce/review them! The kids LOVE it! :) Here's a cute/cheesey video of the song...

If you use these activities, leave me a message, and let me know how they go! :)

Dollar Tree Goodies

I stopped by the Dollar Tree today because I needed a bin for my listening center, and I found these border beauties!

This border will go GREAT with Deanna Jump's Pete the Cat craft that I'm planning on doing! You should check out her unit on TpT...it's great! Plus Fran over at Kindergarten Crayons has a TON of Pete the Cat FREEBIES!! My kids are going to LOVE Pete!

I thought these would go well with the "Everyone is a Star in Kindergarten" bulletin board idea I found at Fairy Dust Teaching that I want to do with my teammate on our huge hallway bulletin board.

These are perfect for Open Court unit 8: By the Sea!

And who couldn't use some number borders? Especially when we're focusing on math fluency this year...I'm sure I'll have something to display...awards/successes of some sort!
